The National Assembly is doing everything within its powers to distance itself from the ruling party, the APC.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) holds a majority position in both chambers of parliament at the center and had lost out on having its choices for the positions of Senate President and Speaker installed.

The APC appears to have all but lost out on having other principal officers of parliament installed as well.

The party had written a letter to the Senate inscribing the name of Ahmed Lawan as its candidate for the position of majority leader of the Senate, among other names for other positions.

On Wednesday, Senate President Saraki ruled the letter from his party and discussions therefrom, out of order.

Before proceeding for recess on Thursday, the Senate officially nominated Mr. Ndume from Borno State, as its Majority Leader.

It also nominated Bala Ibn Na’alla as deputy leader. Mr. Na’alla, a former House of Representatives member, hails from Kebbi state.

The Senate also nominated Francis Alimikhena, from Edo State, as Deputy Chief Whip.

The nominations are however still subject to approval. But this move is another slap on APC’s face.
