The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it will welcome a probe of the Jonathan administration as long as such an exercise isn’t a witch-hunt.
There are indications that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will move to probe former President Jonathan and all the officials who served under him, in the next couple of weeks.
The Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, had said in an interview last week that President Muhammadu Buhari will open the books on former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
“The world is too small a place for anybody to hide if you are running from justice. Looters will never go free,” Adesina had said.
However, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Alhaji Abdullahi Jalo, said the party was not afraid of a probe.
Jalo said Jonathan and the PDP have nothing to hide.
“I am sure Nigerians still remember that it was because of PDP’s desire to deal with the scourge of corruption that our government under the leadership of President Olusegun Obasanjo established the EFCC and the ICPC. The records are there.
“All we are asking for is that there must be fairness and justice, whatever probe they want to carry out must have respect for the rule of law, good conscience and the fear of God.
“Such a probe must not be carried out based on vendetta or simply because somebody does not like the name or the face of somebody.”
The Department of State Services (DSS) has in the past week gone after former security operatives who served in the Jonathan administration. The crackdown is expected to continue.
EFCC Chairman Ibrahim Lamorde has reportedly asked his subordinates that all corruption files on past Ministers under Goodluck Jonathan be left on his desk in preparedness for commencement of interrogation and possible prosecution of those fingered.
Those probes are expected to kickoff anytime soon.
