The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday admitted that it will question Kingsley Kuku, the former special adviser on Niger Delta Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

While details of the allegations against the former presidential aide are not immediately clear, there is suspicion that the amnesty programme, which Mr. Kuku supervised, was laced in corrupt practices.

Kuku has been requested to appear before a team of EFCC interrogators on Tuesday, July 28.

But he wont be honoring that invitation, at least in the main.

Kuku has informed the EFCC that the earliest possible date he would honour the invitation is September 30, as he is currently in the United States for medical care.

A letter by Mr. Kuku’s lawyers to the EFCC said the former presidential aide was undergoing surgery on one of his knees.

“Our client is currently in the United States of America to keep appointment with his doctors at the Andrew Sports, medicine and ‘Orthopaedic Centre LLC for surgery on one of his knees.

“He is expected back in Nigeria at the end of September, 2015 after the surgery and recuperation,” the letter, dated July 24, stated.

The lawyers assured that Mr. Kuku will report to the EFCC as a “law abiding citizen” by 10.am on September 30.
