The Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa, Enetimi Odon popularly referred to as Timaya, is fighting a rape charge leveled against him by an Instagram fan.
In a series of Instagram posts, a lady whose identity is not immediately clear, accused Timaya of taking advantage of her. “You are a rapist. I will make sure the world knows it. You might want to cancel your show and get out of Atlanta because I am going to the police,” she wrote under the identity ExposingtherealTimaya.
The lady’s allegations came laden with screenshots and audio recordings of previous conversations between Timaya and her.
She added that “I don’t hurt people, but if you want me dead, then it is fine. I leave you to God. No problem, I will leave the town as you advised; I am taking myself off the show.”
She added in yet another post: “Timaya what you did was wrong, and you know it. Just because you are a star does not give you the right. Yet you still went ahead and did your show while I was hurting.”
And in another, she wrote: “Who are you; that’s a threat. This is not Nigeria, you will never see the light of the day behind bars.”
Responding to the allegations, Timaya said the woman traveled to his hotel to have sex with him and that couldn’t have been rape. “It was consensual sex”, he said.
According to Timaya,
“She is a fan who follows me on Instagram. She started by sending direct messages and if you looked at the screenshots my manager released, you would see that on many occasions running into weeks, I wouldn’t reply her. But when I got to Atlanta, we agreed to meet.
“There was no rape and you can deduce this from the recordings she released. There was consensual sex, no doubt. Or, how would you describe a woman who travelled down to my hotel and made out with me, only to start a tirade? She is just being mischievous.”
Timaya added that he was handling this his own way.
“I am still dealing with it. I have two girls and it is better I deal with the issue decisively now so they do not grow up and be taunted by what may be perceived as my wrongdoing.
“Necessary steps are being taken by my team and I am sure that in no time, we will all know the truth because no sinner will go unpunished,” the singer vowed.
