The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Moshood Adeoti, said the governor was unavoidably absent because he was invited to Lagos for a very urgent meeting.

The governor eulogised the late monarch for his contributions toward the promotion of Yoruba culture.

He said the late monarch sent a text message to him before he travelled abroad for medical attention and committed him and the state government into the continuous guidance of God.

Also present at the ceremony were Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Ondo governor Olusegun Mimiko, and the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in the August 9, 2014 governorship election, Senator Iyiola Omisore, who is also an indigene of Ife.

Some traditional rulers were present at the service while some were represented, including the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, who was represented by some chiefs.
The Bishop of the Ife Diocese of Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Oluranti Odubogun, who delivered the sermon said Oba Sijuwade died when it was God’s time to take him away.
The cleric, who was represented by Very Rev. Olusola Akanbi, said the Ooni brought fame and popularity to his town and people.
In his words, “The monarch’s demise demonstrates that every mortal will die no matter the status.
Osinbajo, who lauded the late monarch, said he lived well and long and was a source of pride to all Yoruba people.
The Punch reports that the Islamic aspect of the service is currently underway.
All markets and shops in the town remained shuttered as the burial rites are ongoing, while all roads leading to the palace have been deserted.
Some men in white robes had earlier walked round the outer palace perimeter around 8am.
They sang in cultural rhyme as a surging crowd that initially besieged the palace, quickly retreated.
