The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority may compel domestic airlines to put adequate tracking devices on their airplanes.

It is believed that the recent air mishaps around the world, especially the disappearance of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, whose whereabouts are still unknown almost a year after it went missing, played a huge part in the decision

BizWatchNigeria quotes an anonymous Aviation ministry source as saying that with the new directive, all airlines operating in the country must install tracking equipment on their planes that would capture the movement of the aircraft and relay same to the regulatory body.

He added that this was in conformity with the new regulation of the International Civil Aviation Organisation.

The International Air Transport Association and ICAO have come up with a new rule that civil aviation authorities must make it compulsory for every aircraft to have tracking equipment and also ensure that aircraft are monitored.
