A former Peoples Democratic Party chairman in Bayelsa, Col. Sam Inokoba (retd.), is dead.
Inokoba, who on Saturday, August 15, led other top PDP personalities heavyweights, as well as a horde of members to defect to the All Progressives Congress, passed on in the early hours of Wednesday.
It was learnt that the APC leader died at the Military Cantonment Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos.
He is believed to have visited Lagos on a private visit to see his family when he slumped and died.
Before his demise, Inokoba’s health had generated some concern as he has reportedly slumped on several occasions at public functions – including the last PDP presidential rally in Yenagoa.
Inokoba was said to have procured his Expression of Intent and Nomination Forms at the APC secretariat in Abuja to contest in the party’s governorship election primaries a few days ago.
His son, Waripamowei, confirmed his father’s death, saying that he slumped at about 2am on Wednesday.
He said Inokoba was confirmed dead before he was taken to the hospital, adding that some of the family members had already set out for Lagos to convey his corpse back to Bayelsa.
The Inokoba family, in a statement by the deceased’s elder brother, Clee Inokoba; and first son, Waripamowei, confirmed the APC leader’s demise.
He passed on a month shy of his 67th birthday
