Daniel Amokachi may have resigned as coach of Ifeanyi Ubah Football Club, but the Anambra born oil magnate who owns the football side says the former Super Eagles coach and player hasn’t followed due process and so, remains contractually bound to continue as coach of the team.

“No, I am not aware of his resignation,” Ifeanyi Ubah told the Vanguard. “I have an understanding with Amokachi and if he is saying to the press that he has resigned, has he shown them the contract papers and a copy of his resignation letter? What if I also go to the same press and say I fired him? I have not seen anybody who resigned at night. I have no problem with him. He is my friend and I cannot truncate his career. On our part, we have not fired him.”

Part of the reasons adduced for Amokochi’s resignation was that Ubah is such a dictator as owner of the side–often ordering the team to travel through the night after games in spite of the attendant risk to their lives. After their loss to Sharks for instance, Ifeanyi Ubah ordered Amokachi and his team to return to Nnewi the same night.

Amokachi reportedly ignored the directive and insisted that the team must stay till the following morning because of the players and the officials’ who may be exposed to danger if they embarked on the journey that night.

It was further scooped that the former Super Eagles striker reconsidered his union with the oil and gas magnate after consistently being pressured that he must deliver a continental ticket at the end of the season, among other reasons.

Ifeanyi Ubah has his own side of the story:  “They (players and officials) were asked to return to base after the match in Port Harcourt. So what? Was it the first time they were being asked to return after a match?” he asked with a tinge of anger in his voice.

Ifeanyi Ubah says he won’t tolerate Amokachi tarnishing the image of his club and added that there was nothing wrong in setting targets for managers of a football team.

“When you are working in a particular setting, you abide by the rules that guide that place. Above all, he has not met the target set for him. The target was not for the entire season but for a number of matches and he has not met it,” the club President said without explaining what the target was.

“I am not going into a press war with him. Until I see his resignation letter or meet with him one on one, I will not want to say anything more than what I have said. What I won’t tolerate, however, is if he goes about making public statements that will tarnish the image of my club.”

There you have it: a war brewing.
