Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has said the refusal of immediate past Governor Rotimi Amaechi to appear before the panel probing alleged financial malfeasance during his time, is enough to show he’s as guilty as charged.

The Justice George Omereji panel of inquiry is tasked with the responsibility of probing the sale of Rivers assets, as well as look into other matters pertaining to the management of resources by the past administration.

Amaechi has shunned the panel, saying it is an illegal set-up; out to nail him no matter his defense. But Wike has a few words for his predecessor.

“The implementation of the committee’s recommendations shall be devoid of fear or favor, affection or ill will. The refusal of Amaechi to appear before the panel is an admission of guilt. The allegation that the Justice Omereji commission of inquiry is a subterfuge to indict Rotimi Amaechi, suffers from the eclipse of reasoning and the poverty of logic”, Wike said through his spokesperson, Opunabo Inko-Tariah.

Wike restated that Amaechi had set up a probe panel when he took over as Governor as well, and wondered why this was any different.

“Amaechi set up the Kayode Esho’s commission and when former Governor Peter Odili was invited, he obliged despite the fact that Justice Esho had made some uncomplimentary remarks about a perpetual injunction concerning Odili”, Wike said.

Wike also said the opposition APC in the State should quit making noise after they failed to present handover documents before leaving office and left him with an empty treasury.

Wike says he’s been fixing the economy of the State and things are beginning to pick up.
