The Police has said it is only a few hours away from effecting the arrest of Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Saraki got an arrest warrant served on his person on Friday for not showing up at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). The Senate President said he stayed away from the trial because his scheduled arraignment had been overtaken by events to wit: a federal high court had granted all parties a stay of execution till Monday, September 21.

The development angered the Justice Danladi Umar-led tribunal, which promptly ordered that the police or other relevant security agencies produce the Senate President before its next sitting on Monday.

The court asked the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mr. Solomon Arase and other relevant security agencies in ‎the country to arrest the embattled senator who is facing corruption charges at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

Police Force Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Olabisi Kolawole, told The Nation that the police would soon move to arrest Saraki in compliance with the tribunal’s directive.

“We are going to promptly arrest the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and produce him before the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Monday.

“Since it is a bench warrant issued by a competent court, the order will be carried out without delay. But we don’t want to pre-empt anything,” Kolawole said.
