Farmers in Ondo State have threatened a crisis of a national scale if Afenifere chieftain Olu Falae, isn’t set free in the next one week.

Falae was kidnapped from his farm in Ilado, Akure on September 21 by persons suspected to be Fulani herdsmen. His captors are demanding for a N90m ransom.

Under the aegis of the Ondo State Agricultural Commodities Association, the farmers urged the federal authorities to expedite action on the septuagenarian’s rescue.

“What we are saying is that the abduction of Chief Falae is unacceptable to we farmers in Ondo state and Southwest,” Mr. Akin Olotu, who chairs the association, said.

“We therefore give seven-day ultimatum to the federal government to secure the release of Chief Falae. If he is not released within the next seven days, the farmers in Ondo State will take action that will have a national impact. We should not forget the Agbekoya war in the old Oyo State”.

The farmers also recommended that nomadic farming by Fulani herdsmen be outlawed as the practice is now obsolete.

“The herdsmen are now turning to armed robbers, they rape, and kidnap, they are now seriously threatening the lives of the people of our communities in this state and if you report to the police, nothing will be done. Now they have kidnapped one of our elders. We will not take this any longer,” Mr. Olotu warned.
