The senator representing Benue North/South in the senate, George Akume, has said the senate ethics and privileges committee will take its time to sift through the tons of petitions against former Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi, before a date for his screening is fixed.
Latest reports say Amaechi’s screening has been deferred to Tuesday next week.
Senators representing Rivers in the senate had submitted petitions against Amaechi; received from persons in the state including from the Rivers State government.
Amaechi and Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike are sworn enemies.
“Once we are certain that Amaechi has no case to answer, he’ll be cleared”, Akume told ChannelsTV, while adding that the senate ethics committee will submit its report during plenary and a position taken in the full glare of the watching public.
“The senate has promised to be transparent and we’ll be transparent in this case”, Akume added.
