Dangote, Ezekwesili, Gov Ben Ayade and Sen Murray-Bruce to grace this year’s CSR Awards

TruContact CSR Nigeria, Organizers of The Nigeria CSR Awards otherwise known as The SERAs and the jury have released the names of top Nigerians to be honoured at the 2015 Awards ceremony.

International Business mogul, serial entrepreneur and one of the world’s richest men Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chairman, Dangote Group, would receive The CSR & Sustainability Man of the Year award. This is being awarded to him for being the single highest investor in corporate social responsibility and sustainability in Nigeria within the year under review. These investments were deemed to have had far reaching and positive impacts on the lives of millions of Nigerians.

The Other two honourees are Senator Ben Ayade, the executive governor of Cross River State and Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, representing Bayelsa state in the 8th Nigerian Senate. Both men would receive the ‘Sustainability Champions’ award. This award category was introduced in 2012 to recognize the work of key influencers and promoters of CSR and sustainability in Nigeria.

Governor Ayade is being recognised for his well-documented works on the environment as chairman of the international institute of environmental research. He also worked on ground water remediation in Nigeria and invented a sewage treatment plant based on solar energy and also won an award from the Japanese government for outstanding research into global warming.

While Senator Ben Murray-Bruce is being honoured for his advocacy in the area of renewable energy and public campaigns against wastage of resources and corruption in high places using the platform of ‘common-sense’ media campaigns. He is the first elected member of the national assembly to openly speak against impunity while promoting responsible governance.

The keynote speech would be delivered by co-founder of Transparency International and former minister for education, and former vice president of the World Bank (Africa), Oby Ezekwesili.

The adopted theme for 2015 is ‘Building Partnerships for a Sustainable Future: Business Leadership as a Catalyst for Development.’ This seeks to explore the vital role cooperation and partnerships have played in the efforts to achieve the millennium development goals (MDGs) and how such inclusive approach will enhance innovative mechanisms for financing and accountability as these factors remain crucial for the sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the post 2015 development agenda.

The award which is Nigeria’s top CSR and sustainability honour, enters its ninth year. The awards process is designed to integrate principles and framework of the Global compact, global reporting Initiative and ISO 26000.

The organisers have also released the list of final nominees for the 17 award categories on the project website www.sera-ng.com

To date the SERAs, which began in 2007, has registered more than 520 applications from 92 organisations from 13 different sectors of the Nigerian economy.

The Awards ceremony holds on November 20th, 2015 at the prestigious Shell Hall of the MUSON centre at 6pm.
