Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh has said Emmanuel Emenike who announced he was hanging up his Nigerian boots earlier this week, has been unreachable since he took the decision.
Oliseh also said he wouldn’t be forcing the UAE based player to rescind his decision.
“He has not reached me but I have called him twice because immediately I heard this, first I thought it was all these lies on social media so I called him twice yesterday (Tuesday), I am expecting a return call from him, it is when I hear from him that I would fully accept that he is retiring” Oliseh told Brila Fm on Wednesday.
Oliseh also said there’ll be no far reaching attempts to make Emenike change his mind.
“He is a man. If a man decides to retire there is nothing anybody can do. And if you force him back, it will be counter-productive. So for that reason, like I said, if he has decided to retire, for me, it’s a shame because he was part of our build up plan. But like what we have said in the past, the only thing that is irreplaceable is Nigeria itself; we are all replaceable”, Oliseh affirmed.
Oliseh also said it is time for Nigeria to build without its established players.
“The thing there is that we have so many strikers to look at. We can’t base on just one player. And like I have said before, we have a pool of players for each position, we have like five or six players which we can call on.
“And Emenike who has been part of the build process has decided to retire, so we will have to sit down and try to find a solution,“ the Super Eagles Coach concluded.
