After journalists laid siege on the premises of the federal high court sitting in Abuja practically all Wednesday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) failed to arraign former governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam as has earlier been announced.
There was no word on the reason behind the no-show.
A nine-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N3.1billion had been preferred against the man who oversaw the affairs of Benue between 2007 and 2015 at the Federal High Court Abuja on October 2.
Suswam and his former finance commissioner, Omodachi Okolobia were alleged to have diverted the proceeds of the sale of shares owned by the Benue State government and Benue Investment and Property Company Ltd– an offence punishable under section 15(3) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011 as amended in 2012.
He was due to appear in court today but reports say the case hadn’t even been assigned to a judge yet.
Journalists had thronged the court premises as early as 8am but were seen leaving in trickles around noon.
