Today assuredly belongs to former President, Olusegun Obasanjo as a near continuous stream of congratulatory messages stream to Nigeria’s former head of state on his 78th birthday which he celebrates today, March 5. One of them has come from the former military Head of State and All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

It has been an eventful past year for Obasanjo, first, dumping the Peoples Democratic Party in dramatic fashion, then according to reports, essentially endorsing Buhari for Nigeria’s top job in a recent event in Abeokuta.

Buhari, in his statement, called Obasanjo a courageous patriot who was not afraid of telling the truth. PM News reports that Buhari also characterized Obasanjo as a “nationalist whose commitment to democracy and good governance are worthy of praise.”

Although the birthday man is often described as a controversial politician, his patriotism is truly remarkable, Buhari added.

The APC candidate insisted that Nigeria’s former leader was always there for his country and jolt the conscience of leaders to listen to the people they govern.

Moreover GMB commended Chief Obasanjo over his “spectacular broad minded approach” and the passion with which he served the country.

The birthday man prepared for the big day decidedly interesting fashion, taking part in a novelty football match with some of his friends and political associates. Obasanjo was spotted wearing a T-shirt with number 78 on the back, signifying his age.
