The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said the December 5 scheduled date for the Kogi supplementary governorship election is sacrosanct. The commission also said it expects the APC to submit the name of its replacement candidate by December 1.

“We are prepared for the election and we are not thinking of either postponing it or cancelling it. In fact, we have prepared a supplementary budget for the election”, INEC’s Deputy Director of Voters Education and Publicity, Mr. Nick Dazang, said in a chat with Punch.

He added that “the budget is for the conduct of the election and it will cover expenses such as accommodation, allowance and other logistics for the election.”

He said the budget for the Kogi election has been submitted to the commission’s chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

Dazang also said INEC isn’t giving the APC a deadline to submit the name of its candidate who’ll replace the dead Audu Abubakar.

“We are not talking about deadline for now, but we expect the party to submit the name of its candidate by December 1″.

Reports emerged on Saturday that the APC has settled for Yahaya Bello as its Kogi governorship candidate.
