The office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State has been set ablaze by arsonists, we can report.

This comes barely 24 hours before supplementary governorship election is billed to take place in 91 polling units spread across 18 local governments in the State.

The Kogi election was declared inconclusive a fortnight ago and the APC standard bearer who passed on, has since been replaced.

Dekina is one of the affected LGAs.

Reacting to the incident, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mallam Halilu Pai told online site Per Second News that the development won’t affect the poll in any way. The building was torched around 2am.

Pai said the burnt election materials are being replaced while INEC has relocated to a temporary office in the vicinity.

“We will not succumb to the undemocratic antics of a few…replacement of the materials is underway”, Pai was quoted as saying.
