President Muhammadu Buhari has said rescuing the Nigerian state from the vice grip of the then ruling party, the PDP, was what inspired the unity of the opposition parties to confront the former head-on at the ballot.
The President was speaking at the public presentation of a book entitled, “From Opposition to Governing Party: Nigeria’s APC Merger Story,” written by the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.
He said leaders of the myriad opposition parties in the land realized that to defeat what was a powerful and rich PDP, they had to set aside their differences.
He said, “We realised in 2015 that unless we come together, the PDP will succeed in killing Nigeria, so we had to make sacrifices.”
On his relationship with the author, Ogbonnaya Onu, Buhari said “my relationship with the author is cordial. When I was placed in protective custody by Babangida, he was sending people to greet me regularly. That was how the relationship developed.”
