The Nigerian army on Sunday repelled an attempt by Boko Haram to overrun Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
We had reported that the gun battle between the insurgents and the army had raged from 6pm on Sunday to some three hours later.
The insurgents attempted to gain access to Maiduguri via Aladuwari village, which is about two kilometers from the Borno State capital.
Surrounding villages also suffered the effects of the gun battle as suicide bombers made their way to quiet settlements, detonating their way through and leaving scores dead.
