The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has upheld the suspension of the senator representing Kaduna central in the legislature, Shehu Sani, for anti-party activities, castigating officials of the party in public and treating the party with disdain.
A news report on an online site on Tuesday had revealed that most of the signatures on Sani’s suspension letter were forged, making the action contestable and of no effect. But that has now been overtaken by events as the senator’s suspension has been ratified following an afternoon meeting on Tuesday.
The Publicity Secretary of the Kaduna chapter of the APC, Alhaji Salisu Tanko-Wusono, said in a statement that Sani’s suspension would last 11 months.
Tanko-Wusono said the party had exhausted all avenues to caution the senator and has been left with no choice but to ax him from all party activities for a year.
Tanko-Wusono added, “We hereby uphold the suspension of Comrade (Senator) Shehu Sani as a member of the party for the period of 11 months.
“By this suspension, he is to desist from all party activities until when the suspension is lifted.
“The party calls on all its members to be law abiding as we move forward to fulfill our campaign promises.”
Sani was also accused of “undue criticisms of policies and programmes of government both at the federal and state levels and heaping insults and abuses on party leaders through various media platforms.”
The party lamented that Sani had turned down all invitations from the party to explain himself and clarify some of the knotty issues he had been linked with.
Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and Senator Shehu Sani had long fallen out.
