EFCC obtains court order to keep Fani-Kayode in detention

Former Aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, who waltzed into the offices of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, will be lodging with the anti-graft commission a little while longer.

It’s illegal for a suspect to be kept beyond 48 hours while under interrogation, so the EFCC has obtained a court order to remand Fani-Kayode in its custody for a couple more hours.

That court order is called a ‘holding charge’ in legal parlance and allows investigators more room for interrogation before the suspect is charged before a court.

According to SaharaReporters,  the former spokesperson of the Goodluck Jonathan campaign organization will be flown to Lagos to keep a date with investigators on another case bordering on fraud.

Fani-Kayode was alleged to have illegally received N840m being part of the $2.1bn earmarked for the purchase of arms; but which was shared to cronies and politicians by erstwhile NSA Sambo Dasuki.
