Former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has had his passport seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), a week after he was invited and detained for questioning by the anti-graft agency.

Fani-Kayode who served as Director of Publicity of the Goodluck Jonathan campaign during the 2015 presidential election, is being interrogated for his part in the looting of the country in the past administration.

Investigators allege that the N840m which Mr Fani-Kayode received for the purposes of the campaign was stripped illicitly from the central bank coffers and formed part of the $2.1bn of security funds diverted by ex-NSA Sambo Dasuki.

Spokesperson for the erstwhile aviation minister, Jude Ndukwe, confirmed the development and railed that his boss hasn’t been granted bail.

“The EFCC gave him two bail conditions. The first condition was that he would hand over his passport while the second condition was for him to provide two sureties. The two sureties must be at least directors in the civil service and must have properties in AMAC (Abuja Municipal Area Council).

“Five days after meeting the conditions, the EFCC has refused to release him.”
