Thugs allegedly belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State have attacked Otti’s campaign team at Ntigha, IsialaNgwa North Local Government Area of the State.
A former CEO/GMD of Diamond Bank, Alex Otti is the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Governorship candidate for Abia State and the odds on favorite to win the April 11 election. He’s been at the receiving end of State sponsored thuggery as a result. Abia is a PDP controlled State.
The thugs who were in four vehicles, including two PDP branded buses, waylaid Otti’s motorcade at Ntigha junction on Enugu-Portharcourt express way at about 2.23pm, Thursday.
Eyewitnesses said the thugs who were led by the TC Chairman of the local Government area, Mr. GINGER ONWUSIBE, shot sporadically into the air, causing a stampede among passersby and motorists alike on the express way. Johnson Chukwu, an APGA Chieftain was thoroughly beaten up and his vehicle windscreen shattered.
Otti however restrained the security personnel attached to him from shooting at the thugs. Otti’s campaign had to park by the road until the thugs were repelled by the youths of the area with help from police personnel in the vicinity. This is the second time in less than two weeks that Otti has being attacked by PDP thugs. At a town hall meeting in Ikwuano a fortnight ago, PDP sponsored thugs sent everyone scampering before upturning chairs, beating everyone up and vandalizing vehicles parked outside the venue.
