Youth of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos chapter, have described the senator representing Kogi West in the senate, Dino Melaye, as a violent man who shouldn’t be seen among distinguished members of Nigeria’s lawmaking body.
Last week, Melaye threatened to impregnate and beat up the senator representing Lagos central in the senate, Remi Tinubu.
In a press statement signed by APC state youth leader Omotayo Sanyaolu, the young wing of the governing party in Lagos said a “barbaric, uncouth, reckless Melaye…who is a promoter of domestic violence…and who is a trigger happy gangster, should be recalled from the hallowed chamber of the national assembly.”
Their statement in full follows:
Our attention has been drawn to the disgraceful conduct of hooliganism by Senator Dino Melaye at an executive session of the senate on Tuesday, 12th of July 2016, on the person of Senator Oluremi Tinubu, a second term senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District and the wife of our National Leader in the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The alleged utterances of Mr. Melaye were barbaric, uncouth, reckless and not expected of a distinguished member of the hallowed chamber of our National Assembly .
The said utterances reported widely by both print and broadcast media negate the UN Convention against women battery and abuse. It is a clear case of physical assault under the Nigerian Constitution and is a clear violation of any religious or moral code and a clear case of gangsterism on the part of Mr. Melaye. This act is unaccepted by we the Youth of APC in Lagos state.
We’ll like to state that a wife beater and a promoter of domestic violence should be recalled from the hallowed chamber of our national assembly.
This is the same trigger-happy gangster that allegedly pointed a gun at close range to the head of his wife of many years, Tokunbo, when she stood up to challenge him for extra-marital affairs that led to pregnancy from other women. He denied this pregnancy. Today, Tokunbo has filed for divorce for constant battery and assault. This bully is not fit to be a lawmaker in Nigeria.
No man responsible and sane will threaten to attack and impregnate another man’s wife for that matter. Mr. Melaye’s action has shown that most of the things said about him are nothing but the truth. A responsible individual that is truly worth being called a senator – a position that conveys respect, decorum and decent public conduct – should be able to manage his temper and anger. Better still, he should go for anger management and emotional therapy.
We, the Youth of APC in Lagos State, demand that Mr. Maleye retracts his verbal assault and tender an unreserved apology to Mrs. Tinubu within the next 7 days.
Failure to comply with the above demand will confirm Mr. Maleye as a promoter of violence and abuse against women and such character shall be deemed unfit to occupy the hallowed chambers of the senate. And our national leaders in the party should begin the move to recall him from the red floor of the National Assembly. We also use this medium to tell that the battle line has been drawn between the Mr. Maleye and the APC Youth of Lagos state.
