Louis van Gaal has revealed that Manchester United will be his last job in football management.

The Dutchman, who is just 63 years, began his managerial career in 1986, as an assistant at AZ Alkmaar and has gone on to win league titles in Holland, Germany and Spain.

Van Gaal is hoping to add the Premier League to that illustrious list, ending his career on a high note.

“I am also old. This is my last job. For sure,” he told The Daily Telegraph.

“I have to pay attention to my kids, my grandchildren but also to my wife. They deserve it. Now I cannot pay that attention. I was not at the birthday of my grandson for example. I don’t like it.”

United are currently fourth in the Premier League, eight points behind table toppers Chelsea – who have played one game less than everyone. Van Gaal however is not setting his sights far, admitting that their main objective this season is to qualify for the Champions League.

“That’s our goal, yes, and it depends on how we end this season,” Van Gaal said when asked if the club can win both the Premier League and the Champions League.

“We have to qualify for the Champions League and we have many tests next year.

“That also develops the level of your team, and of course how many players can come in to improve our selection.”
