The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in Abia, Alex Otti, has been speaking about the outcome of Saturday’s presidential and national assembly elections.
Otti in a statement on Wednesday, thanked Abians for turning out in unprecedented numbers to support him and his party, saying that at various town hall meetings, the people had expressed deep worries about protecting their votes during the election.
Otti said he was certain that Abia residents voted en-masse for all candidates fielded by APGA or the Senate and House of Representatives.
He, however, expressed disappointment that many of their votes did not count, alleging that the Peoples Democratic Party in the state manipulated the electioneering process in a desperate attempt to subvert the will of the people.
The statement read in part: “I wish to assure you the good people of Abia state that we will do our best to make sure that this does not happen.
“Your vote must count. It must count because it is your constitutional right to determine how you are represented and who represents you.
“We are working with relevant government agencies at the appropriate levels to ensure that the correct results are announced. I believe INEC is working hard to resolve the issues.
“I want to appeal to you to remain calm and law abiding while we continue to do whatever is necessary under the law to redress this obvious injustice. Your vote for our future and the future of our children must be made to count this time.
“Thank you for your continued support as we prepare for the coming election on April 11th, 2015. Please come out and vote for me and all APGA candidates and be rest assured that your vote must surely count,” Otti concluded.
