Word has it that Ekiti legislators have served Governor Ayo Fayose an impeachment notice and given him seven days to respond.
At least 18 members of the State House of Assembly, all from the All Progressives Congress have agreed to commence investigations into allegations of grave misconduct against the governor. One of the legislators told Sahara Reporters, “We are going to look at the allegations against Governor Fayose in a responsible manner and make our decision in line with the rule of law and the overall interest of the people of the state.”
Fayose, of the Peoples Democratic Party, wasted no time in responding to the impeachment threat, calling the idea the “joke of the century”.
In his words: “The script being acted by the APC is a failed one because no one, no matter how highly placed will be allowed to test the will of Ekiti people.”
He also added that: “The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly is Hon Dele Olugbemi and not Dr Adewale Omirin.”
This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka.
The statement further read: “Omirin is already in court, challenging his impeachment and common sense dictates that when you are challenging an action already taken in court, you have accepted the consequences of such action pending the determination of the suit you filed.”
If Fayose is successfully impeached, it would be the second time in his political career that he’s been removed from office.
