President Goodluck Jonathan has poured cold water on any chance he’ll be investigating a rigging audio tape in which one of the major actors said he had the blessings of the President.
The stage was Ekiti in Southwestern Nigeria and the voices belonged to Brigadier general Aliyu Momoh, Ayodele Fayose, Musiliu Obanikoro, Caleb Olubolade, Alhaji Jelili Adesiyan (Police Affairs Minister) and Senator Iyiola Omisore.
Adesiyan had confirmed the authenticity of the recording, but said the conversations had been taken out of context. Fayose had said the voices had been computer generated and Obanikoro has taken media outfits to court for his troubles.
Working himself into a frenzy on the tape was Governor Ayodele Fayose who turned out the ultimate beneficiary in the end; annexing the throne from erstwhile Governor Kayode Fayemi.
But while the nation has been shocked by the contents of the audio leaked by an army officer now on the run, President Jonathan says he would not be lifting any finger on the audio whatsoever.
President Jonathan told The Wall Street Journal that the audio was a fabrication despite the confirmation of its authenticity by U.S.-based voice-verification firm, Guardian Consulting LLC.
“It’s all fabrications,” he said of the audio. “Why should I investigate things that are not real?”
