Saraki Is “Hopeful” That He’ll Be Nigeria’s Next Senate President

Of all the major contenders for the senate presidency in the next dispensation, Benue Senator George Akume and Nasarawa’s Abdullahi Adamu, political watchers think the leading contender for the powerful (and lucrative) position is Kwara’s Bukola Saraki.

And he is hopeful he can clinch the seat.

Speaking with journalists when he received his certificate of return in Ilorin, he said he is hopeful of emerging as president of the Senate when the 8th National Assembly is inaugurated.

“I think we’ll continue to move around and talk to our people, at the end of the day, we are hopeful”, he said.

Kwara governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, fresh from winning a second term in office, is openly campaigning for Saraki, saying that the senator is qualified to hold the influential post.

In his words: “We are grateful to our political leader in the state for guiding us aright. Indeed, most of what we are witnessing today in the state and other parts of the country happened because our leader and others chose to stand up for change at a critical point in Nigeria
