As the 7th Senate held its valedictory session to mark the end of its tenure on Thursday, the Majority Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba said 123 bills were passed during their tenure.

The 123 bills in the four-year tenure of the red chamber included the record 46 bills it passed yesterday.

Before the commencement of the valedictory session, the Senate had deferred discussion on the constitution amendment to another legislative day, despite the fact that they will in all likelihood not be the legislative class to attend to the thorny issue.

In his valedictory speech, Senator Ndoma-Egba said that within the same period, 115 motions were considered with an equivalent amount of resolutions approved.

In his words: “Despite the penchant of the executive not to comply with National Assembly resolutions, they nevertheless served as a moral compass of putting the executive in check.”

He further said that, as a responsive legislature, the constitutional review featured prominently on the agenda of the 7th National Assembly – aimed at addressing identifiable loopholes in the constitution and strengthening democracy and ensuring Nigeria’s continued corporate existence.

“However, as much as  we tried to bequeath an acceptable constitution, we found ourselves in a legal quagmire induced by the executive, the entire process, efforts and resources needlessly dissipated,” Ndoma-Egba concluded.

If 123 bills sounds like a huge amount of legislative work, here’s some perspective from a commentator on Twitter.
