Former Kano governor, now serving senator, Rabiu Kwankwaso, accompanied two-time Kogi governor, Prince Abubakar Audu, to pick up the All Progressives Congress governorship form on Monday.

Audu is seeking a third term as governor, having ruled the state from 1992 to 1993 and a four-year stint from 1999 to 2003.

Speaking at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, Kwankwaso said Audu’s decision to enter the race was a patriotic move and symbolised his commitment not to forsake his people at a time when the state needs an experienced and mature hand to pilot its affairs.

“He is a progressive and an achiever, he is going to change Kogi,” he said.

Audu was accompanied by a large crowd, among whom were senators, ex-ministers, federal and state lawmakers and other prominent party leading lights.

In his remarks, Audu said much … without saying much.

“Presently Kogi is in a very bad shape and sorry state and as such you can not allow somebody to go there and learn on the job, it require technocrats, somebody with experience to bring it up to the level I left it in 2003.

“Most of the aspirants now, I don’t want to say much about them, most of them are trying to do it as youth corps job, some of them are just young school leavers. Because they stumbled on some money somehow and they feel they should be governor of the state, what do they want to achieve?

“What is the present state of the state? How do they want to eliminate the very sad situation prevailing in the state? They have no idea, all they want is to be a governor.”

Sounds like a manifesto?
