Residents of Gulak town, the headquarters of Madagali local government Area of Adamawa state, taking refuge in Yola, the state capital, are jubilating over news that their local government area has been liberated by the Nigerian troops.
Madagali was among the seven local government areas of the state captured by the Boko Haram insurgents since last year; six had been liberated by the troops leaving Madagali in the hands of the insurgents until Friday when it was also liberated.
The residents on Friday expressed gratitude to President Goodluck Jonathan for boosting the morale of the troops during his visit to the state on Thursday, adding that the President’s visit has impacted on the fight against the Boko Haram insurgents.
One of the residents, who simply identified himself as Mallam Musa, said that the news of the liberation was something for which to thank God and the troops involved in the fight against the insurgents.
He said by implication the Federal Government had shown its determination to wipe out the insurgents in the north-east and the country at large before the forthcoming general elections.
Musa said they got the news of the liberation of Gulak on BBC Hausa news and their men who were still living on mountain tops, who also called to break the good news to them.
“Because of the good news our people are jubilating due to fact that they will soon return their ancestral homes and to live their normal lives. The news is a welcome development and for the first time the government has made us to believe and have confidence on them again” he said
