2015 will see one of Nigeria’s leading record labels, Chocolate City celebrate its 10th anniversary. According to its CEO, Audu Maikori, the celebration might come with a surprise reunion including artistes who have parted ways with the label.
You may recall that founding singers Jesse Jagz and Brymo left the label, leaving behind hip-hop sensation, Ice Prince and M.I Abaga. With the exit of Brymo and Jesse, the label signed a female rapper, Pryse and Sasha Alesh, popularly known as Dice Ailes.
Currently, the label also has Femi Anikulapo-Kuti, son of the legendary Fela; DJ Tony Casie; gospel artiste Nosa; and Victoria Kimani signed to it.
An entertainment blog, Kobznation quotes Mr. Maikori, a lawyer by training as talking up the possibilities of a reunion.
According to the blog, “Break ups and estrangements in this industry is nothing new and what is important is the essence of what brought us together which is music and as long as it is music, there would always be that togetherness. Let’s wait, there may be a few surprises very soon.”
Industry sources believe that Chocolate City acts is currently working on a compilation album as part of its commemoration activities.
