Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari has won Ondo State in what is panning out to be a tight presidential contest. The Independent National Electoral Commission Returning Officer, Prof. Oyewole Olusola, announced the APC as taking the State by 299,889 votes to 251,368 votes for the Peoples Democratic Party.
Results trickling into our Situation Room has also shown the APC standard bearer pulling ahead of closest challenger President Goodluck Jonathan in the Southwest States of Ogun, Lagos and Oyo. The APC lost Ekiti to the PDP in poll results announced on Sunday.
Buhari has also won the Ogun State poll.
The State Collating Officer, Duro Oni, while announcing the Ogun State results to journalists at about 9.00 p.m. at the commission’s headquarters in Abeokuta said of the total 559,613 votes cast, the APC candidate polled 308,290 to defeat President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who scored 207,950.
The votes of the other parties in Ogun State are as follows: AA 584,AD 1927, ACPN 3072,ADC 1364,APA 1930,CPP 978,Hope 332, Kowa 432, NCP 815, UDP 562, PPN 4339 and UPP 597.
Oni, who is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, also disclosed that the total registered voters was 594,975, while total number of valid votes was 533,172 and the number of rejected votes was 26,441.
The result breakdown from Ogun shows the APC winning in 13 local governments while PDP won in 7.
Provisional results from across the South West collation centers at the time of filing this report has seen President Jonathan amass 1.053 million votes (43%) while Buhari has gotten 1.419 million votes (57 %).
