Our correspondents on the ground in the South South and South Eastern States have reported a raft of illicit electoral practices as collation gathers steam in the wake of the vote on Saturday and Sunday.
Reports of thumb-printing exercises after the vote, streamed into our Situation Room all night long from Akwa Ibom State.
In Rivers State, members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said elections did not hold in the State and no results should be announced as a consequence. Thousands of Rivers State residents took to the streets on Sunday in the pouring rain to protest alleged manipulation of “results from polling that never held”.
In Abia State, our correspondent reports that the votes announced at the collation center by the electoral commission were markedly different from those declared at the polling units. On the streets of Abia, residents massed outside the offices of INEC and just about anywhere they could find, to vent their displeasure and frustration with chants denouncing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for cooking up figures shortly before there were announced.
In Cross River State, allegations of vote manipulation were also rife and a Channels TV crew was assaulted by police personnel at the Calabar round-about with cameras damaged as well. At midnight local time in Calabar, the collation exercise was still in progress.
There were also reported cases of vote manipulation in Anambra, Imo and Ebonyi States.
Stay with our Situation Room for more all day long.
