A few days after Barnabas Gemade of the All Progressives Congress defeated the incumbent Benue governor, Gabriel Suswam in the Benue North-East senatorial election, suspected Fulani gunmen invaded the governor’s village, killing at least 30 people.

It was gathered that the insurgents, armed with dangerous weapons, invaded Kurungu, Tse Vir, Abur and Ageraga communities of Gaamber Tyev in Logo local government area, shooting randomly at residents.

Several farmers reportedly fled to Ugba town, the headquarters of Logo and Zaki-Biam in Ukum Local Government Area.

The special assistant to the governor on media and publicity, Mr. Joseph Anawa, also an indigene of the affected community, said the attack occurred around 5am. He stated that the militia quickly left after the shooting spree.

The police public relations officer, ASP Ezeani Amaechi, confirmed the attack saying, “several houses were burnt and corpses have also been recovered. The police and army have quickly taken charge of the affected areas to maintain peace.”
